Commitment to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Indigeneity

STEM Stories transforms science, education, and humanities spaces into places of belonging, visibility, and agency for all. This platform shifts who gets to be seen, heard, and celebrated. These stories support equity-centered research, learning, and leadership through storytelling.

Equity: Recognizing that systemic barriers shape who gets access to opportunities. This work is about breaking down those barriers and building new paths. STEM Stories prioritizes inclusion across disciplines, platforms, and partnerships by challenging gatekeeping in research and education.

Diversity: Celebrating the intersections of identity, culture, language, and lived experience. This platform elevates Black, Indigenous, racialized, 2SLGBTQIA+, rural, and other systemically marginalized voices in the field. We build inclusive networks of researchers, educators, and students, fostering co-creation and shared learning.

Inclusion: Designing research, education, and storytelling spaces where everyone can be valued for the wisdom they bring. Our methods embrace both academic knowledge and lived experience, recognizing that true social change happens when both are held in equal regard.

Indigeneity: STEM Stories stands in solidarity with Indigenous Peoples across Turtle Island and support Indigenous-led knowledge, research, and education. We acknowledge that STEM exists on stolen land—both in what is now called Canada and the United States—and that uplifting STEM begins with respect and reciprocity.

Values: The principles of collaboration, cultural humility, and continuous learning guide all the work and resources found here. This platform is committed to asking hard questions, listening to community voices, and inspire action.
